Christmas deliveries could be at risk following Royal Mail workers’ vote to take strike action over a change to their pensions.
The Communication Workers Union (CWU), which represents Royal Mail staff, voted by 89.1 per cent to take strike action in a dispute over changes to their pension scheme. The strike action could put a strain on delivery networks at the crucial Christmas trading time.
According to CWU general secretary Terry Pullinger, there has been a “breakdown in trust” between workers and Royal Mail management, who say they see no grounds for industrial action.
The CWU is due to meet later this week to finalise strike dates.
