British womenswear brand Marble has reiterated its commitment to wholesale and its pledge to only supply independent retailers. Managing director Nick Williams says that while the majority of brands choose to launch their own e-commerce and retail operations, Marble will continue to not sell directly to consumers but only trade via high-quality boutiques.
“We have grown rapidly as a brand over the last few years and on many occasions we have been advised and encouraged to build on that and to expand into e-commerce and sell online. However, it’s not a route we want to pursue. Fashion retail is tough enough at the moment and we know that this would negatively impact our stockists. They need any support they can get,” he says.
“This is why we are making it categorically clear that we are only working with independents. We have invested heavily in our photography so that our stockists can benefit from professional shots for their own marketing and online stores, and we are also employing somebody to direct any consumer enquiries to their nearest Marble stockists. Indies don’t need any more competition, and we at Marble are certainly not going to compete with them,” he stresses.
The brand showcased its s/s 18 collection at Moda Woman earlier this week, with Williams reporting a record number of business taken at the show.
